Don’t Stop Just Geaux – Intro

Meredith here, Owner of SFT and one of the writers for #SBRinsider. I’m so excited for this blog and to share some of the things we love about Baton Rouge with you. I wanted to write a little bit to let you get to know me before we jump in! First of all, I love fitness. Like – all of it. I’ve been a runner it seems all my life. I started running in the fifth grade and it’s always been my love/hate relationship. A few years back I tore a very long named tendon, and this past August I had to have surgery and repair it. So, my last real race was November 2016 where I ran a half in New Orleans. For me, I need a challenge. I need that commitment! I need a RACE like right now on my schedule.

With this blog, I will be documenting my journey back to running post surgery! I will share my goals, mantra, fitness collection, recipes, places to workout, workouts I love and much more! I really can’t wait. I wish it could just happen RIGHT NOW, like all at once but like running it takes time. I invite you all to join me on my journey back to my next half. I want to make this journey for the right reason and do it in a way that will ease me back into running long distance.

I heard this story on a podcast (which is sort of my newest obsession), so I had to look it up and share with you because it literally had me fired up! I’m sure you know who Michael Jordan is, right? I grew up watching him on Saturday mornings, rather than Saved By The Bell or California Dreams. The man really needs no introduction and has become something of a legend for turning failure into success. He says, “I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.” BAM! Pretty powerful stuff right here!

This is why I’m going to share with you my mantra for 2018,  “DON’T STOP JUST GEAUX”! Don’t hold back because you’re afraid you’re going to fail or will miss judge that goal you wrote down. It’s ok, it’s getting out there and doing it! Making yourself go just that extra mile or workout for just 5 more minutes. It’s the drive within to be your best and knowing that you will fail but you’re going to succeed. Guys — I’m here to tell you and invite you on this journey with me, I’m pretty pumped up honestly to get back out there, write my fitness goal for 2018, and just start and repeating in my head over and over to Don’t Stop Just Geaux.

January:

The Louisiana 5K, the Louisiana Marathon

  • Race Date: Saturday, January 13th, 2018
  • Start Time: 8:00 a.m.
  • Start & Finish Location: Louisiana State Museum, 660 North 4th Street Baton Rouge, LA 70802
  • Finish Festival: 900 N. Third St., Baton Rouge, LA 70802

** Well guys, I had to make a hard decision to run or not to run The Louisiana 5K because of the cold weather that moved into Baton Rouge. Prior to my surgery I would say screw it and do it. However, post surgery I have to be mindful and really listen to my body. Leading up to the run, I had only ran up to 2 miles and honestly not ready to run a 5k but I was pumped up to start the New Year off with this run. I’m the person that does what she says but, in this case, I’d rather be smart in my fitness journey to be safe and know that things can change along the way and — it’s ok! Set a new goal and don’t look back. Be the mantra “Don’t Stop Just Geaux” within reason of course! — Meredith

Komen Baton Rouge Race For The Cure 5K or 10K

I’m joining the group with Cold Coffee Hot Mess and making this my first 5K to run in since 2016. I’m really excited and nervous of course!
